Winners of the Nov. 8 election for single-member district seats were sworn in at the Board of Trustees meeting Thursday evening.
After the Board canvassed the votes, each of the winners approached the podium to take the oath of office including Carl Cisneros for District One, Brenda Spillmann for District Two, Becky Lockhart for District Three, and Warren Burnett for District Four. Each will serve a four-year term.
The Board and Superintendent Susan Bohn expressed gratitude for the service of outgoing Trustee Jon Reyes for District Four. “Mr. Reyes has spent his life as an educator and truly brought his expertise to bear in his role as Trustee,” said Bohn. “The district is grateful for his service to the students and staff of Lockhart ISD.” Reyes was elected in 2012 and served one term.
The Board then voted for its officers as part of the reorganization. Trustee Spillmann was elected Board president. Trustee Cisneros was elected vice president, and Tom Guyton was elected as Board secretary.
Earlier this week, the Caldwell County Elections Office filed a petition asking for a recount of votes cast on Nov. 8 when a discrepancy emerged between the number of ballots cast and the number of ballots counted. A recount was performed Thursday afternoon, confirming the originally announced winners for the single-member district seats. The Board will meet at Lockhart Junior High School on Monday, Nov. 28 to continue its work to boost student learning and achievement across the district.
